Maui County updated its rules on February 21, lifting vaccination or testing requirements for indoor public spaces. Previously, the form would need to be filled out 24 hours before departure in order to receive a QR code through email, which would be used at the airport to verify a passenger's Safe Travels Hawai'i information. On the island of Oahu, the Safe Access O’ahu program, which requires proof of vaccination or a negative test to enter businesses such as restaurants, bars and gyms, is set to end on March 6. The statewide indoor mask mandate remains in effect for now, despite revised guidance around masking from the CDC. Going forward, counties may impose their own limits. On December 1, statewide limits on social gatherings, restaurants, bars, gyms and other social establishments were lifted. Those numbers have decreased dramatically. In January, Hawaii saw cases of Covid-19 soar to the highest levels of the pandemic with the spread of the Omicron variant. It has maintained some of the strictest travel measures of any state. To enter the United States, being fully vaccinated is the key requirement for international travelers 18 and older, as well as a test taken before departing for Hawaii for all travelers 2 and older. Since its inception, Safe travels has screened more than 12 million incoming.
